In a televised speech on May 30th, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that a woman who rejects motherhood is “deficient” and “incomplete.” Before the late 19th century, women lost almost all of their civil rights upon marriage and were typically defined as the property of their husband [1]. With very few rights of their own, their sole role in society was to bear children. Mr. Erdogan seems to be stuck in the 19th century, with the mistaken idea that a woman is only a woman if she has children.

This is a very interesting point to make about the role of women in society and how we are often given the image of being inferior to men. I also think this is an interesting topic in response to the articles on menstruation and how this has created a world where women are not only ashamed of something so natural but at the same time, are made to feel like it is the source of our only purpose in life. Thanks for sharing that article, it definitely brings to light an important aspect on gender roles in our world.
