In a CNN article, it was brought to my attention how a county in Alabama refuses to lower their flag to half staff in honor to the Orlando victims from the terrorist shooting. I find it appalling that even at the prime example of how hate can lead to such horrible acts, people still believe that the flag should be flown high only for those “who have given significant distinguished service to our country” according to the county’s Commissioner. Although I respect his opinion, I believe that we should react not with hate but with love. That same love should also demonstrate that we will not bow down to extremists, and anyone who died believing in the rights our country has given us, such as that we can love whoever we want, has served our country correctly. I believe that a higher demonstration of respect and kindness should be paid by all to those who have fallen due to such an awful terrorist attack and hate crime.
