In a CNN article, it was brought to my attention how a county in Alabama refuses to lower their flag to half staff in honor to the Orlando victims from the terrorist shooting. I find it appalling that even at the prime example of how hate can lead to such horrible acts, people still believe that the flag should be flown high only for those “who have given significant distinguished service to our country” according to the county’s Commissioner. Although I respect his opinion, I believe that we should react not with hate but with love. That same love should also demonstrate that we will not bow down to extremists, and anyone who died believing in the rights our country has given us, such as that we can love whoever we want, has served our country correctly. I believe that a higher demonstration of respect and kindness should be paid by all to those who have fallen due to such an awful terrorist attack and hate crime.

That’s very sad and appalling to hear. I very much agree with you, respect and kindness should be paid to those who’ve fallen. I hope everyone outside of that county in Alabama understands how disrespectful they are being. However, even though some people refuse to care we still can. This is the link to a gofundme for the survivors and families of the victims of the shooting: https://www.gofundme.com/PulseVictimsFund
We can still show our support!

I love the way you worded yourself when you said, “I find it appalling that even at the prime example of how hate can lead to such horrible acts, people still believe that the flag should be flown high only for those “who have given significant distinguished service to our country” according to the county’s Commissioner.” To be completely honest with you, I am not that surprised that a society refused to lower their flags to half staff. I am even less surprised that it was a county in Alabama. Alabama has always been a more conservative state. I think I love what you said, when I quoted you earlier, so much because it brings up the philosophy of different societies during a time of distress. Philosophy, psychology, and sociology are all subjects that I am interested in. You would think that these sexist, homophobic, racist, etc. societies would learn from America’s past that it is not okay to discriminate. Even if you do not approve of these people’s lifestyle, they are still American citizens and anytime innocent lives are taken it is a tragedy. The loss is not greater or less than based on how the innocent lives identify sexually. This seems like common sense to me, but people always manage to surprise me.
